Undergraduate Law in Practice LLB

Since 2015, we have led the sector in building placement year degree models in partnership with leading law firms. The award-winning Law in Practice LLB programme was established in 2014 and now has a range of law firms, an in-house legal team, alternative legal services providers, legal technology businesses, and a charity offering placement year opportunities to our students. These year-long placements give students the opportunity to gain in-depth experience of different areas of legal practice and also to gain insight into what a “law firm of the future” will look like – spending time on practice innovation projects and experimenting with the new technologies being used to evolve legal service delivery.

Postgraduate law - LLM with SQE Preparation

In 2025 we then created an innovative new LLM (Law Masters) qualification, embedding within the course preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), the professional examinations required to become a solicitor in England and Wales. working in partnership with BARBRI.  This means that students can gain a Russell Group Masters qualification, focusing on their chosen area of law (ranging from Human Rights to Corporate Law, Dispute Resolution, IP and many other pathways) whilst preparing for their career as a solicitor in a time-efficient (and cost-effective) way.

Developing more opportunities for practice-based education

Building on this unique base of experience in integrating education with practical experience, our goal in the Hub for Professional Practice is always to create more workplace-focused degree models and qualifications, helping practitioners at all stages of their career development and partnering with industry leaders. As another example of this work, we are currently exploring the creation of an innovative degree apprenticeship model with employers.
