QMplus Module Template

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the student learning experience, all taught modules from the 2026/27 academic year will follow a core agreed template structure.  This approach has been developed collaboratively across faculties and professional services, is endorsed by Senior Leadership, and reflects agreed institutional priorities for improving the quality, accessibility and consistency of our digital learning environments.

Template implementation will take place over summer 2026 by your Faculty Digital Learning Team.

What this means

  • Your next years QMplus module area will be updated to align with the core agreed template structure, with limited flexibility for discipline-specific variations where appropriate.
  • Local digital education / TEL support teams will work with you to implement the template in your modules ahead of the new academic year.
  • You will still have flexibility within the structure to organise your teaching materials and activities appropriately for your module, as you did before.

Why this matters

The move to a consistent QMplus structure is driven by the TEF and our Strategy 2030, in addition to several other key priorities:

1. Improving NSS / PTES outcomes

Student feedback consistently highlights the importance of clear, well-organised online spaces.  A standardised template will make modules easier to navigate and locate learning materials and assessments and help improve student satisfaction.

2. Creating consistency across modules

Students currently encounter a wide variation in QMplus layouts across modules.  A consistent layout will create a familiar structure, reduce cognitive load, and support smoother transitions between modules and years.

3. Enhancing accessibility

A clear, structured approach will make information easier to find, support assistive technologies, and align with accessibility best practice.

4. Improve overall student experience

Ultimately, this change is designed to prioritise student needs by easier access to resources, clearer communication, and a more intuitive online environment.

Next steps

  • Digital Learning Teams will contact departments directly where needed.
  • Module tabs will be ‘locked’, and any amendments or additions should be raised with your Faculty Digital Learning Team for approval.
  • Further information and guidance will be shared on this page in the coming weeks.

We recognise that many of you have developed effective approaches within your modules, and this change is not about removing academic autonomy. Instead, it ensures that all students benefit from a clear, consistent, and accessible baseline experience, while allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality teaching and learning.

If you have any questions about using the QMplus template, please contact your QMplus local school contact or Digital Education Team.
