Have you tried STACK on QMplus yet?

Explore powerful question types with automatic marking, targeted feedback, randomisation and mathematical answer entry.

Earlier this year, we introduced the STACK question type on QMplus, bringing powerful mathematical and scientific assessment capabilities to our online quizzes. If you haven't explored it yet, now is a great time to see what STACK can offer.

STACK enables students to enter mathematical expressions directly, rather than being restricted to multiple-choice answers. The system uses computer algebra to evaluate responses and can provide detailed, targeted feedback based on mathematical properties of an answer.

Key benefits include:

  • Mathematical answer entry – students can enter equations, expressions and calculations directly.
  • Randomised questions – create multiple variants of a question to support practice and reduce opportunities for copying.
  • Automatic validation – students can check that their answer has been interpreted correctly before submission.
  • Intelligent marking and feedback – provide feedback tailored to specific types of errors and reward correct mathematical methods.
  • Support for graphs and visualisations – enhance questions with plots, graphs and interactive elements.

STACK is particularly useful for modules involving mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics and the physical sciences, but its flexibility means it can support a wide range of quantitative assessments.

If you're planning assessments for the upcoming semester, we encourage you to explore the STACK question type and test it within a QMplus quiz. Even a small pilot activity can help you evaluate how STACK might enhance student learning and assessment in your module.

Watch the video below to learn more about STACK.

Documentation for the STACK system is available from within the question itself or you can visit the STACK website to find out more.

Why not create a test question this week and see what STACK can do?
