Marketing students from Queen Mary University of London participated in this year’s Marketing Analytics Hackathon achieved podium finishes, demonstrating the practical skills and industry knowledge developed through their studies.
Organised by the Academy of Marketing – Marketing Analytics and AI Special Interest Group and hosted by Oxford Brookes University, the competition brought together some of the brightest students from across the UK to tackle real-world business challenges.
Students from MSc Marketing, MSc Digital Marketing, and MSc Marketing and Digital Analytics represented Queen Mary, competing alongside students from a wide range of programmes at other institutions. After progressing through a competitive selection process, the two Queen Mary finalist teams secured outstanding results, finishing 2nd and 5th overall.

The challenge, set by social enterprise twosides.info, required students to analyse survey data and develop evidence-based recommendations for segmentation, targeting, and positioning (STP) strategies.

Beyond technical expertise, the Hackathon offered students the opportunity to strengthen valuable professional skills. Working under tight deadlines, they collaborated in teams, managed complex projects, and presented strategic recommendations to a competitive audience.
Opportunities like this are a key part of the student experience at Queen Mary. By engaging with live industry challenges, students gain hands-on experience, build confidence in their analytical abilities, and enhance their employability before graduation.
The outstanding performance of both Queen Mary teams highlights the strength of marketing analytics education within the School of Business and Management and reflects the talent, dedication, and ambition of our students.
