qLegal Alumni at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)
This year's graduation ceremony provided an opportunity to reconnect with qLegal alumni and hear about the diverse career paths they have taken since completing their studies.
Among the many success stories, the qLegal team was delighted to learn that several alumni have secured roles at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain.
The success of qLegal alumni in securing roles at the EUIPO, alongside the invaluable support of the intellectual property academics at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, highlights the strength of qLegal's focus on employability skills, innovation, commercial awareness, and supporting the next generation of legal professionals.
Reflecting on their experience at qLegal and their journey to employment at the EUIPO, the alumni shared the following insights:
“At qLegal I had the opportunity to interview pioneers for the Yours Lawfully podcast focusing my interviews on the effects of artificial intelligence on the environment, and the film sector. My journey at qLegal helped me develop a professional outlook towards simple day to day tasks which in turn improved my work ethic. The interviews helped me practice my speaking skills, learn the art of art of interviewing, and taught me how to think on my feet!” - Tushitta Murali, Yours Lawfully Podcast, 2024-25.
“qLegal was one of the most formative experiences of my Master’s degree because it gave me direct responsibility for advising a real client.
Being able to demonstrate hands-on, client-facing experience was invaluable when applying for my role at the EUIPO, as it showed I could apply legal knowledge in a professional setting. The preparation we undertook for client interviews also made me much more confident in professional interviews and important meetings.
In my current work, particularly when drafting absolute grounds decisions, the ability to explain legal reasoning in clear and accessible language is essential. qLegal helped me develop the skill of translating complex legal concepts into structured, understandable advice, something that continues to support me every day.” - Justine Porcario, Entrepreneurship Law Clinic Module, 2024-25.
“I was part of the qLegal ’Public Legal Education‘ stream from October 2024 to April 2025. I am currently working as a Trainee in the Business Operations Department at the European Union Intellectual Property Law Office (EUIPO) in sunny Alicante, Spain.
As part of our qLegal work, we engaged in classroom feedback sessions to help each other refine and improve material for presentations. Those feedback sessions helped me learn how to present feedback constructively and apply it. Before we started our qLegal projects, my teammate and I had the opportunity to speak to our workshop host and consult with external solicitors to make sure our goals for the project were aligned and any questions were addressed. That experience has been very helpful to me in my current job, where I continue to practice active listening and note-taking during team meetings.” - Ewa Grzybowska, Public Legal Education, 2024-25.
“qLegal played an important role in developing my practical understanding of IP and strengthening my confidence in applying legal concepts to real-world scenarios. This has certainly been valuable in securing and performing my role at the EUIPO.” - Mariam Marcos Zabalza, Legal Advisory Paris, 2024-25.
The students, who came from a range of qLegal programmes, were not alone in joining the EUIPO. Between 2023 and 2025, at least six qLegal alumni secured roles there.
We wish all our graduating students the very best and look forward to hearing from more of our alumni about the roles they have taken on and how qLegal supported them along the way.
