Library Service Update
Changes on Wednesday 24, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June
Library users are advised that there will be temporary changes to services and access across our sites this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday due to the hot weather warning. These adjustments are in place to ensure that safe and reliable support remains available throughout both days.
Please see below for what to expect at each location.
Mile End Library
The Mile End Library building will remain open from 8:00am to 10:00pm on all days.
From 8:00am to 4:00pm, there will be a reduced enquiry service. Throughout the day we will be carrying out regular welfare and safety checks and ensure the building remains a safe and supportive study environment.
You can still use the space for study, but please be aware that library support may be more limited than usual.
Whitechapel Library
The Whitechapel Library will be closed on all days.
Library users are redirected to use the Garrod Building, which will be available as an alternative study space:
- Open 8:00am to 6:00pm for all users
- Available 24/7 for staff and students who have existing access
- Printing facilities can be found on the 2nd floor of Garrod GA234.
West Smithfield Library
The West Smithfield ground and mezzanine floors will be closed and the basement level will remain open.
While using the basement space there will be regular welfare checks and drinking water will be available for users within the space, and in the nearby Robin Brook Centre.
Please follow any signage or guidance when using the building, as access will be more limited than usual.
Online Chat Support
To help support users during this period, our library chat service will be extended to 10:00am to 6:00pm.
During these hours library staff will be available online to help with enquiries. You can ask questions, get research support, or request guidance remotely.
We strongly encourage using this service if you are unable to access your usual library support in person.
