Profile
Gilbert Ajebe Akame is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, UiT – The Arctic University of Norway. His research examines Indigenous Sámi children's rights in the context of climate change and the green energy transition, with a particular focus on children's participation, legal pluralism, and relational approaches to climate justice. Combining doctrinal legal analysis with socio-legal theory and participatory research methodologies, his work explores how Sámi children's expressions of árbediehtu (traditional knowledge) contribute to understanding living law, Indigenous legal traditions, and intergenerational responsibility. His research draws on interdisciplinary perspectives from law, childhood studies, Indigenous studies, and critical children's rights scholarship, with the aim of advancing more relational and Indigenous-centred approaches to children's rights and environmental governance.
