Sustainability opportunities for Queen Mary students

Get Involved: Students

There are a range of ways to get involved in sustainability while studying at Queen Mary.

Sustainability Awards

The Students' Union hold annual ceremonies for the Society Awards and the Volunteering Awards. The Sustainability Impact Award celebrates the student group who has made a positive impact on the world around them through activities seeking to address global challenges, such as environmental sustainability or climate change.

Our Volunteering Awards celebrate the “Sustainability Volunteer of the Year”, given to a student who has shown dedication to sustainability through their volunteering efforts.

Societies and Activities

The following student societies are a great way to join in with sustainability-related events and meet like-minded people.

Other regular activities include the BLOC Gardening Club, offering students and staff the opportunity to tend to the ArtsOne gardens, including the beds on Mile End Road and the first floor courtyard garden. Anyone interested can register using Microsoft Forms

Volunteering

QMSU Volunteering is an easy way to get involved with volunteering and gain recognition via the Volunteering Awards. Getting involved with these opportunities can help you develop your skillset and CV, while helping out with your community. The volunteering opportunities range from local Tower Hamlets to further London boroughs, and from one-off to recurring. Some sustainability opportunities include Canal Clean-Ups, Tree Planting, Litter Picks, charity shop positions, and the Reuse Fair. Go to the webpage, sign in with your student login, make a volunteering profile, then go to ‘View Opportunities’ to get started.
